The rules and the traps
- • JPJ limits (private car, effective 8 May 2019): windscreen ≥70%, front sides ≥50%, behind the driver no minimum — provided both side mirrors are intact.
- • Films MULTIPLY with glass: a “70%” film on 80% glass is only 56% composite. This is why “legal film, illegal car” happens — always quote the composite.
- • Double-layered film multiplies again (70% over 70% over 80% glass ≈ 39%) — add the second layer into the film number if you have one.
- • Darker front glass is possible only with a JPJ approval (security or medical grounds) — carry the approval; Puspakom and JPJ check against it.
Good to know
- JPJ limits for private cars (effective 8 May 2019): windscreen ≥70% VLT, front side windows ≥50%, rear side windows and rear screen no minimum (both side mirrors must be intact).
- Composite = glass VLT × film VLT. A 70% film on 80% glass is only 56% — the number enforcement will read.
- Darker front glass requires a JPJ approval (security/medical); with approval the windscreen can go darker than 70%. Carry the approval document.
